LONDON TEACHER BHUSAN CHETTRI CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN GRAYS WITH FAIRY LIGHTS MATTRESS
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Grays, a university lecturer from London was caught attempting to meet a girl he believed was only 12 years old for sexual activity. The individual, identified as Bhusan Chettri, was sentenced to over three years in prison following his arrest by undercover police officers.
Bhusan Chettri, aged 36 and residing on Merchant Street in London, is originally from India.
At the time of his arrest, he was employed as a data analytics lecturer at Queen Mary University of London.
His actions came to light after a series of online exchanges with an individual he believed to be a young girl, but who was actually an undercover police officer operating under the profile name “Ella.” In November of the previous year, Chettri initiated contact through the online chat platform “321chat,” where he engaged with the profile “Ella,” claiming to be a 15-year-old boy.
During their conversations, he expressed a preference for younger girls and sent numerous sexualized messages, encouraging “Ella” to perform sexual acts on herself as a way to prepare for their planned meeting.
Over the course of their messaging, Chettri also transmitted indecent images of children and other explicit material, which was used as evidence during his trial.
The prosecution, led by Bridget Todd, revealed that Chettri had sent a message stating, “It’s illegal to like younger girls but that’s just the way he felt,” indicating his awareness of the illegality of his desires.
The police had arranged for him to meet “Ella” at Grays train station on December 2 of the previous year, with Chettri claiming he had a friend’s room where he could stay.
However, upon arriving at the station, he was confronted and arrested by officers.
Further investigations included a search of Chettri’s London residence, where authorities discovered a mattress placed in the middle of the lounge floor, decorated with fairy lights—an unsettling detail that was highlighted during the court proceedings.
The presence of the fairy lights and the mattress suggested premeditation and a disturbing intent to facilitate a sexual encounter with a minor.
Judge Samantha Leigh sentenced Bhusan Chettri to three years and four months in prison for attempting to facilitate a child sex offence and for distributing indecent images of a child.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online grooming and child exploitation, especially involving individuals in positions of trust and authority.
