BERNARD MOORE FROM NORWICH CAUGHT WITH BIZARRE INDECENT IMAGES IN NORWICH COURT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Norwich, Bernard Moore, a 70-year-old resident of West Pottergate, appeared before Norwich Crown Court to face serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images involving children. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Moore's actions, which spanned over a period of more than three years.
Moore was charged with possessing a significant collection of indecent images, including 38 classified as Category A, the most severe level of such material.
In addition, he admitted to possessing 11 images categorized as Category B and six images classified as Category C.
These categories denote the increasing severity and explicitness of the images involved.
Furthermore, Moore also confessed to possessing an extreme pornographic image, adding to the gravity of his offenses.
The court was informed that Moore's behavior was characterized by a compulsive search for increasingly bizarre and extreme material.
His legal representative, Andrew Oliver, described Moore as having become a “magpie” for pornography, with a curiosity that escalated over time, leading him to seek out more disturbing and bizarre content.
The offences were committed over a period starting from January 1, 2012, and continuing until May 14, 2015.
Judge Katharine Moore addressed the court, emphasizing the importance of balancing justice with public safety.
She stated that it would be in the public interest to give Moore a “last chance,” reflecting a cautious approach to his sentencing.
As part of his punishment, Moore was sentenced to eight months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for 24 months, meaning he would not serve time unless he reoffended within that period.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Moore was ordered to participate in a specialized internet sex offender treatment program, aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
The court also mandated a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement, designed to help him understand the harm caused by his actions.
To further protect the community, Moore was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, restricting his access to certain online content and monitoring his activities.
He was also registered on the sex offenders’ register for a decade, ensuring ongoing oversight of his conduct.
The case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding online exploitation and the importance of judicial measures to safeguard vulnerable individuals from harm.
