BENJAMIN ROBINSON CAUGHT IN OXFORD POLICE STING TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH FAKE 12-YEAR-OLD CHILD
In December 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Oxford involving Benjamin Robinson, who was apprehended during a police operation targeting online predators.Thames Valley Police orchestrated an undercover sting by creating a fictitious online profile of a 12-year-old girl named 'Molly' in an effort to identify and apprehend individuals attempting to exploit minors through digital communication.
During this covert operation, Robinson, aged 46, engaged in conversations with the decoy, which took place in October of the previous year.
The police revealed that Robinson had asked the fictional girl to kiss and cuddle her, and he also requested her to send photographs, indicating a clear intent to engage in inappropriate and sexualized communication.
The decoy, posing as a child, was actually an adult police officer, and the exchanges included discussions about Robinson’s fantasies involving the supposed 12-year-old.
Following his arrest, Robinson attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he was involved in role play, suggesting a misguided attempt to rationalize his conduct.
Further investigation by the authorities uncovered a single indecent image of a child, classified as Category C, which is considered the lowest level of severity in terms of child exploitation material.
At his sentencing hearing held at Oxford Crown Court, Robinson’s defense lawyer expressed remorse on his behalf, stating that he was 'utterly devastated and ashamed of his actions and what that has done to his family.' The judge, Nigel Daly, sentenced Robinson to a community order lasting 18 months.
This order includes a requirement to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities and to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, emphasizing the seriousness of his misconduct and the need for corrective measures.
