A 36-year-old IT professional, Benjamin Jones, has avoided an immediate prison sentence after being found with over 270 images of the most severe type of child abuse, featuring children aged between 10 and 12 years old.The images were discovered on his computer, and his offending took place over a period of two years.
Demonstrating remorse for his actions, Jones was instead handed a two-year community order, which includes supervision and participation in a sex offender treatment program.
The court acknowledged his need for ongoing treatment, stating that the decision to forgo immediate imprisonment was to allow him to continue addressing his compulsive behavior.
