MANIPULATIVE MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR HARASSING EX VIA BANK TRANSFERS
A 'manipulative' man who persistently harassed his ex-partner by sending messages, making calls, and conducting bank transactions in breach of a non-molestation order has been handed a suspended sentence.Benjamin Corp, aged 35, of High Street, Wroughton, pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching the non-molestation order imposed on June 16, 2023, following a court appearance on May 21.
At a sentencing hearing on June 19, the court was told that Corp had contacted his ex through banking transactions between August 13 and August 26, 2023, despite the order.
He continued to send texts, make calls, and communicate via banking transactions between December 23, 2023, and May 8, 2024.
A victim impact statement shared that the victim felt she did not recognize herself a year ago and had been physically hurting herself due to his actions.
The court also learned that Corp had a history of controlling behavior and assaults, including a previous conviction for two assaults in June 2022.
Corp claimed he was trying to reconnect with his daughter and had since moved on with a new partner, working hard for his family.
District Judge Allman expressed disappointment in his manipulative behavior, especially after a previous community order aimed at rehabilitation.
Corp was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, with requirements for rehabilitation and unpaid work, a three-year restraining order, and ordered to pay surcharge and prosecution costs.
