Forres Domestic Abuser
A man from Forres, Moray, has been handed a two-year prison sentence following a lengthy and disturbing campaign of domestic abuse against his partner. Ben Brown, aged 42, engaged in a pattern of increasingly severe violence that spanned nearly three years, from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2023. The court heard that Brown's actions included multiple forms of physical assault, such as punching, kicking, and forcibly pushing his partner against broken glass, causing her significant injuries.

Throughout this period, Brown's violence escalated, with reports indicating that he attempted to choke his partner, applying pressure to her neck in a manner that restricted her breathing. His violent outbursts also involved slamming fists onto tables, throwing furniture, and smashing household items, creating a dangerous and hostile environment within their home. In one particularly alarming incident, he administered an overdose of medication to her, which posed a serious risk to her life and well-being.

The court was informed that Brown's abusive behavior did not remain limited to physical violence. His actions also included ripping off his partner’s nightdress and exposing her nakedness, further demonstrating the extent of his control and brutality. Witnesses and the jury heard that his conduct worsened over time, ultimately leading to her losing consciousness and sustaining additional injuries. The trauma inflicted by Brown's actions had a profound and lasting impact on his victim, leaving her emotionally and physically scarred.

Ben Brown was tried at Inverness Sheriff Court, where the court proceedings revealed that he was ashamed of his behavior but acknowledged the relationship as being 'toxic.' Despite this acknowledgment, the court found sufficient evidence of his guilt, and he was convicted of the charges related to his violent conduct. In addition to the prison sentence, the sheriff imposed a five-year non-harassment order, explicitly banning Brown from making any contact with his former partner to prevent further harm.

This case highlights the serious consequences of domestic violence and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable in the Moray and Inverness areas.
