Ben Barrett

Llandeilo Sexual Abuser

February 2018 Convicted paedophile found with more indecent images of children at his home A convicted Carmarthenshire paedophile was found with more indecent images of children and using a mobile phone with a camera that he was banned from owning. Ben Stephen Thomas Barrett, of Maes y Farchnad in Llandeilo, pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order by owning the mobile phone with a camera between August 2016 and March last year. The 28 year-old appearing at Llanelli Magistates’ Court on Thursday, also pleaded guilty to making an indecent photograph of a child, classed in category B, on March 24 last year. Along with pleading guilty to another of the same charge of making an indecent photograph of a child, a category C image, on January 16 last year. Images are classed from A to C, with A being the most severe. Barrett also pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited image of a child on January 20 last year. All of the offences took place at his home in Llandeilo, the court was told. Prosecutor Abul Hussein said: “Police went to the defendant’s home for a a routine check as part of the prevention order and his previous offending. “He was found in possession of a mobile phone with a camera, something he was not allowed to have as part of the prevention order which was made at Swansea Crown Court on August 15, 2016. “He should not be in possession of a mobile phone capable of taking and storing images.” Mr Hussein added: “The police seized the phone and it was found to contain internet search references for ‘rape’ among others. “Further analysis found two photos in categories B and C and one more photo was recovered too from the phone.” District judge David Parsons said the offences had to take into account Barrett’s previous conviction for similar matters and that he was in breach of a crown court order as a result of his actions. Defence solicitor Peter Rhys Jones said: “My client will tell you the phone was purchased before his conviction in 2016.” There was no more mitigation heard as the offence was too serious to deal with at the magistrates court. Barrett was granted conditional bail until February 23, when he will appear at Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
