WOMAN RECEIVES 20-YEAR MINIMUM FOR KILLING GIRLFRIEND IN BRUTAL ABUSE
Becky Reid, aged 32, has been convicted of the murder of her girlfriend and mother of her child, Lyndsey Vaux, aged 30.The crime took place in Wigan on May 22 of the previous year, after a history of controlling and abusive behavior towards Miss Vaux.
Reid was sentenced to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison following a six-week trial at Manchester Crown Court, where a jury found her guilty of murder.
During the sentencing, Judge Richard Mansell QC addressed Miss Vaux's 12-year-old daughter, telling her, "I'm sure that deep down she still loved you." The court was shown evidence that Reid had subjected Lyndsey Vaux to years of physical abuse, including kicking, punching, and stamping on her, which left her looking severely injured and malnourished.
Witnesses reported seeing Miss Vaux being dragged by her hair and assaulted in public streets.
On the day of her death, Miss Vaux suffered a brutal battering that proved fatal, with a post-mortem revealing she had suffered 90 separate injuries over years of abuse, ultimately causing her death from multiple injuries.
Reid denied any violence toward her victim.
Additionally, Reid's mother, Gillian Reid, was cleared of murder but found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to Miss Nweans, another previous partner of Becky Reid.
The court highlighted her moral blame for Lyndsey Vaux's tragic death and her history of violence.
Senior police officer Bob Tonge described the victim's suffering as 'horrific domestic abuse,' emphasizing the brutal history that led to the tragic killing.
