BASHIR WAISI SENTENCED FOR INDECENT EXPOSURE IN TRANMERE'S MERSEY PARK

A 26-year-old man named Bashir Waisi, who has no fixed address, has been handed a prison sentence following an incident that took place in Mersey Park, located in the Tranmere area.

The event unfolded around 11:30 in the morning on Tuesday, April 1, when local police received distressing reports from witnesses and park visitors claiming that Waisi had indecently exposed himself in the public space. The reports prompted immediate action from law enforcement officers, who launched a search for the suspect.

Following the initial reports, Waisi was spotted at the Salvation Army center situated on Old Chester Road. Thanks to the assistance of members of the public, police officers were able to locate and apprehend him. The suspect was subsequently charged with two serious offenses: outraging public decency and common assault.

Waisi was brought before Liverpool Crown Court on June 20 to face the charges. During the court proceedings, he was found guilty and sentenced to 22 weeks in prison. The court also imposed a financial penalty, requiring him to pay a surcharge of £154. Additionally, Waisi was issued a two-year restraining order, which prohibits him from making any contact with the victim involved in the case.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Stephenson from Merseyside Police expressed the department’s firm stance on such conduct, emphasizing that reports of indecent exposure are taken very seriously. He praised the public’s cooperation in helping law enforcement locate and arrest Waisi. Stephenson revealed that Waisi initially denied the allegations, but subsequent evidence, including witness statements and CCTV footage, compelled him to admit guilt.

The police department underscored that behavior of this nature is completely unacceptable within Merseyside. The judiciary’s decision to impose a prison sentence and restraining order reflects the gravity with which such offenses are regarded, reaffirming the community’s commitment to safety and decency in public spaces.
