BARRY SHAW'S BRUTAL CRUELTY IN PORTSMOUTH: CHIHUAHUA ATTACK LEAVES PET FIGHTING FOR LIFE
In a disturbing case of animal cruelty that has shocked the Portsmouth community, Barry Shaw, a man with a criminal record and family ties to Stockport, was found guilty of viciously attacking a tiny chihuahua named Coco.The incident, which took place on Gladys Avenue in Portsmouth, involved Shaw losing his temper and kicking the defenseless puppy in a fit of rage, resulting in severe injuries that nearly cost Coco her life.
According to RSPCA Inspector Andrew Kirby, who led the investigation into the case, the injuries sustained by Coco were both extensive and heartbreaking.
Inspector Kirby described the scene as profoundly tragic, stating, "This was a horribly sad case where poor Coco was left with serious injuries.
She was near to death when she was taken to an emergency vet in a collapsed state with missing teeth, bloodshot eyes, and bruising." Shaw, who was not present at the trial, admitted during police interviews that he lost his temper with Coco after her owner left him alone with the dog while they briefly stepped out.
The owner returned to find Coco in a critical condition and immediately rushed her to a veterinary clinic for urgent treatment.
The veterinarian confirmed the severity of the injuries, emphasizing that such violence is unjustifiable and that Coco was incredibly fortunate to survive the attack.
The court heard that Shaw’s actions were unprovoked and driven by a moment of uncontrollable rage.
The case highlighted the brutal reality of animal abuse and the devastating impact it has on innocent creatures.
Despite the severity of the attack, Shaw was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail.
Additionally, he received a ban from owning or keeping any animals for a period of 12 months, a restriction that expired in July 2019.
