BARRY MCCORMICK SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENDER IN PAISLEY CAUGHT WITH THOUSANDS OF VILE IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In June 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Barry McCormick, a 34-year-old man from Paisley, who was found to possess an extensive collection of indecent images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.The authorities uncovered more than 2,400 illicit files on his devices, revealing a disturbing pattern of exploitation and illegal activity.
McCormick’s arrest followed a detailed investigation prompted by child protection officers who provided crucial intelligence to law enforcement.
The police executed a dawn raid on his residence in Gallowhill on July 3, 2020, acting on a warrant granted after receiving credible information that the internet activity at the property involved the downloading and sharing of child abuse material.
The early morning operation saw officers gaining access to the premises, where McCormick was present along with his brother.
During the search, law enforcement officials seized several electronic devices, including a Lenovo blue laptop, an iPhone 7, and an iPhone 11.
Initial forensic examinations of these devices revealed the presence of both Category A and B images, which are classified as the most severe forms of child exploitation material.
The investigation confirmed that McCormick had not only downloaded these images but was also actively sharing them with other online offenders through specialized software.
Prosecutor Ed Sheeran outlined to the court that McCormick had admitted to downloading the illicit content and using online storage to conceal it.
He further confessed that additional indecent material was stored on his devices, and that he was responsible for sharing the content with others involved in similar criminal activities.
The forensic analysis later confirmed that McCormick had accumulated a total of 2,418 images and videos, including 18 Category A images, 99 Category B images, and a staggering 2,301 Category C images.
Among the most disturbing content was a video depicting a six-year-old girl being sexually abused by an adult male, as well as another showing a 12-year-old boy being victimized by a different man.
McCormick appeared before Sheriff Brian Mohan at Paisley Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of permitting or allowing the taking of indecent photographs of children at his residence between March 24 and May 29 of the previous year.
He also admitted to possessing indecent images of children from March 24 to July 3, 2020.
His defense, represented by Terry Gallanagh, reserved the right to make further submissions after the court received background reports.
In his sentencing, Sheriff Mohan ordered McCormick to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, emphasizing the serious nature of his crimes.
The sheriff addressed the misconception that such offenses are victimless, stating, “There is a common delusion among people that this is a victim free crime.
Because it involves previously made pictures of children already abused.
But your activities only encourage further abuse of children.
Do not delude yourself that there is no real harm here.” McCormick was remanded and scheduled to return to court on July 27 for further proceedings, as the investigation and legal process continue to unfold around this disturbing case in Paisley.
