LOWESTOFT MAN BARRIE BEECHEY CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 7,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In May 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving a resident of Lowestoft, Suffolk, identified as Barrie Beechey, who was found to possess an alarming number of indecent images of children. The 63-year-old man, residing on Suffolk Road, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court for a plea hearing on Friday, May 17.
During the proceedings, Beechey admitted to three separate charges related to the creation of indecent images of minors, with the offences dating back to or before January 18, 2017.
In addition to these admissions, Beechey also confessed to possessing 26 images classified as extreme pornography.
The court was informed that law enforcement officials discovered a vast collection of illicit material on his devices, including 909 images categorized as Level A, which are considered the most severe and graphic.
Furthermore, there were 1,104 images in Level B, and an overwhelming 4,982 images in Level C, the lowest category but still indicative of serious criminal activity.
Prosecutor Michael Crimp highlighted some uncertainty regarding the exact timing of the offences, noting that there was confusion over whether the crimes occurred in 2017 or 2018.
He stated that further investigation was needed to clarify the precise dates involved.
Judge David Pugh decided to adjourn the case to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, which will provide a comprehensive assessment of Beechey’s circumstances before sentencing.
The sentencing hearing has been scheduled to take place in a warned list starting June 17.
In the meantime, Judge Pugh ordered that Beechey be required to sign the sex offenders’ register on an interim basis, with the duration of this order to be determined at the upcoming sentencing.
Andrew Thompson, representing Beechey, confirmed that his client had made full admissions to the police, acknowledging the severity of the charges against him.
The case continues to develop as authorities prepare for the final sentencing phase, which will determine the legal consequences of Beechey’s actions.
