SEX OFFENDER FACES DEPORTATION AFTER BEING TRACKED DOWN BY GMP DETECTIVES
A convicted sex offender has been incarcerated after authorities discovered he was not complying with his mandated sex offender regulations.
Officers from our Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) located Sebastian Pavel Baltatu following routine checks that indicated he had unlawfully returned to the country, having been deported in 2020.
Born on 2 September 2001, Baltatu was sentenced to three years in prison in 2019 after being convicted of raping a child under 13.
Through further investigation, authorities confirmed Baltatu's residence in Manchester.
He was found when attempting to claim Universal Credit.
In March 2026, Baltatu was apprehended during a coordinated operation led by SOMU officers.
Once his location was established, officers visited an address in Gorton, Manchester, where they detained him.
He was held in custody until his court hearing.
On 17 April 2026, Baltatu appeared at Manchester Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to five breaches of his sex offender requirements and a violation of his deportation order.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and will face deportation for a second time.
