Belfast Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Belfast, Aurelian Danciu, a 46-year-old man residing at Convention Court in east Belfast, has been sentenced to five months in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage girl who was a friend of his daughter. The incident took place during a visit to the girl’s home, where Danciu’s inappropriate actions were eventually brought to light.
According to court records, Danciu engaged in multiple acts of sexual misconduct against the 15-year-old girl. The court heard that the assault occurred after a conversation about her recent relationship with a boy. During this discussion, Danciu made inappropriate comments about where her boyfriend was not allowed to touch her, which was the beginning of his misconduct.
Prosecutors detailed how Danciu’s behavior escalated when he followed the girl into another room, where she was alone and away from other family members. It was there that he touched her inappropriately, including touching her breasts and groin area, and squeezing her bottom. The girl expressed her discomfort and attempted to move away, but Danciu persisted, following her and touching her over her clothing in the same sensitive areas.
The assault continued into her bedroom, where Danciu sat on her bed and continued to touch her, even squeezing her leg. The girl, feeling distressed and uncomfortable, reported the incident to her mother immediately after Danciu left the house in January. Her quick action led to his arrest shortly thereafter.
During the trial at Laganside Magistrates Court, Danciu denied the allegations, claiming that his actions were part of a misguided attempt to teach her where her boyfriend should not touch her. However, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of one count of sexual assault.
District Judge Anne Marshall sentenced Danciu to five months in prison. Additionally, she ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for a period of seven years and imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for five years, aiming to prevent any future offenses and protect the community from potential harm.
