Cubert Sexual Abuser
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Cubert near Newquay, Cornwall, a local teacher has been sentenced to a year in prison after admitting to indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in November 2004, involved a young girl who reportedly harbored a crush on the teacher, Ashley Theasby.

Ashley Theasby, aged 25, and a recent graduate qualified to teach geography, was found guilty at Truro Crown Court. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been prohibited from working with children for a period of two years. Furthermore, Theasby is required to register as a sex offender for the next seven years, a measure that underscores the severity of his misconduct.

The court was informed that Theasby’s actions were limited to a single indecent assault. The judge presiding over the case made it clear that his career as an educator has come to an end, stating, “your career as a teacher has ended.”

During the proceedings, the court heard that the girl involved had a crush on Theasby, which may have influenced the circumstances of the incident. His defense team described him as a foolish young man who had succumbed to temptation, and emphasized that he ended the inappropriate relationship after the assault, expressing remorse for his actions.

The judge acknowledged that the girl was a willing participant in the events, and also took into account Theasby’s previously good character. Despite this, the court’s decision reflects the gravity of the offense and the need to protect young individuals from such misconduct.
