ASHLEY REEVES AND HIS OFFENSIVE ALIAS USAGE IN DURHAM
Ashley Reeves, a man residing in Durham, found himself in legal trouble after authorities uncovered his use of multiple false identities on the online gaming platform Steam.The incident came to light during a routine investigation when police examined his computer and discovered that Reeves, a known high-risk sex offender, had been operating under various aliases.
Reeves, aged 27, was identified as having engaged in the use of several provocative and offensive pseudonyms, including names such as 'lesbian w**** house' and 'eat my gas.' These usernames were not accidental; they were actively linked to his Steam account, which is commonly used for purchasing and playing video games.
The police's discovery occurred during a standard check and was considered significant due to Reeves’ status and the restrictions placed upon him.
The court proceedings took place at Teesside Magistrates' Court, where Reeves pleaded guilty to breaching a specific condition of his registration as a sex offender.
Because of his previous convictions—totaling 28 with 13 relating directly to sexual offenses—Reeves is under the high-risk sex offenders registration and is subject to strict conditions designed to monitor his online activities.
According to the prosecution, Anne Mitchell, Reeves’ high-profile legal representative, explained that in April of the current year, officers conducted an assessment to ensure Reeves was complying with the conditions of his registration.
During this assessment, authorities identified multiple aliases associated with Reeves’ Steam account, pointing to a violation of the rules that prohibit him from creating or using multiple online pseudonyms.

Mitchell’s statement emphasized that Reeves lives with his partner, who reportedly claimed not to utilize the computer or hold a Steam account herself.
This detail was significant because it indicated Reeves was operating the account independently and perhaps attempting to hide his online activity.
In his defense, attorney Brett Wildridge argued that Reeves had autism and conduct disorder, which he claimed contributed to his actions.
Wildridge stated that the Steam account was solely used for purchasing games and that Reeves believed, due to the account being registered with the police, that no one else could view his profile names.
Wildridge further suggested that Reeves’ use of offensive usernames was simply an act of juvenile stupidity, describing his client as having “a child's mind in an adult body.” The court decided to adjourn the case until November 30, allowing time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
This report will likely consider Reeves’ mental health, his online conduct, and his compliance with the restrictions imposed upon him as part of his sex offender registration, before any sentencing decisions are made.
