PETERBOROUGH MAN GUILTY OF ASSAULT OUTSIDE ALDI
Ashley McMillan, aged 26, was involved in an incident outside Aldi where he headbutted his partner. The court was informed that the contact was accidental, and the incident occurred on March 23, 2021.
Prosecutor Pretty Barber stated that CCTV footage showed the partner recoiling after McMillan had leaned his head towards her.
She was seen walking away from the camera holding her nose, and her initial police account was that 'he headbutted me in the face,' with blood on her sleeves from wiping her nose.
McMillan told police that he did not intend to headbutt her and subsequently gave a no-comment interview.
He pleaded guilty to assault by beating.
During the court proceedings, mitigation was offered by Chris Bennett, who explained that the couple was arguing about their housing situation and their baby, and emphasized that the partner did not want the prosecution to continue.
Bennet also stated that McMillan intended only to get in her face, tripping forward as he did so, resulting in accidental contact.
The case was adjourned to Huntingdon Magistrates' Court on August 10 for a pre-sentence report.
McMillan was granted bail with a restriction not to visit a specific address in Tait Close, Peterborough.
