SOMERSET MAN ASHLEY JEANES JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Somerset has been imprisoned after assaulting his wife with a baseball bat and a broom.Ashley Jeanes was given a sentence of three years and one month during a hearing at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday.
The court heard that, over the period from March 2019 to January 2020, Jeanes assaulted his wife on multiple occasions, causing injuries.
He admitted to one charge of controlling and coercive behavior along with three counts of actual bodily harm assault.
Two of these charges involved attacks with a baseball bat and broom, while on another occasion, he forced her head underwater, causing her to fear she would drown.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the victim sustained bruises and a forehead cut from the assaults, which left a permanent scar.
Speaking anonymously, his wife described the emotional toll the abuse took, stating, “What hurt the most was hearing my mum say she was waiting for a police call to tell her I had been murdered.” Authorities highlighted that the abuse had a lasting effect on her mental well-being, leaving her distrustful of others.
Detective Constable Jessica Bennett explained, “Jeanes’ violent behavior and controlling actions didn’t just torment her; they caused her to fear for her life.
