ASHLEY HAMMETT FROM ACCRINGTON FACES COURT AFTER SEX OFFENDER OFFENSES IN LANCASHIRE

In August 2015, Ashley Lewis Hammett, aged 24 and residing on Lancaster Street in Blackburn, appeared in court to face charges related to his failure to adhere to the legal requirements of the Sex Offender Register.

The court found him guilty of neglecting these obligations and subsequently imposed a series of penalties aimed at monitoring and punishing his non-compliance.

As part of his sentence, Hammett was subjected to a strict curfew, requiring him to remain indoors between 10 pm and 7 am for a duration of six weeks.

This measure was intended to restrict his movements during late-night hours, a common condition for individuals on the sex offenders register to prevent further offenses or contact with vulnerable individuals.

Additionally, he was ordered to pay a criminal court charge of £150, along with £85 in court costs and a £20 victim surcharge, which is a standard financial penalty intended to support victims and the justice system.

Prior to this, Hammett’s criminal history includes a significant conviction from December 2013.

During a hearing at Burnley Crown Court on that date, he pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a female under the age of 16.

This case was part of a broader investigation into his conduct involving minors.

The prosecution had also considered additional charges, including one count of sexual activity with a child under 16 and a charge of child abduction related to the same victim.

However, these additional charges were ultimately not pursued by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Hammett was scheduled to be sentenced on January 21, 2014, but he failed to appear at the court hearing, raising concerns about his compliance and cooperation with the judicial process.

Despite this absence, the court issued a conditional discharge for a period of two years, meaning he would not serve time in prison unless he committed another offense during that period.

Furthermore, he was placed on the sex offenders register for two years, a measure designed to keep track of his activities and ensure public safety.

This registration is a standard procedure for individuals convicted of sex offenses, aimed at preventing recidivism and protecting the community from potential harm.
