ASHLEY BARTON AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN LONDON

A man named Ashley James Barton, aged 37, from Bute Gardens in Hammersmith, has been sentenced to a 12-year prison term after committing a series of heinous acts involving a woman in London.

The court heard that Barton not only raped the victim but also inflicted physical violence upon her, leaving her in a state of ongoing distress and fear for her safety.

The timeline of the criminal acts reveals that in December 2020, Barton assaulted the woman without any provocation, resulting in her receiving a black eye from a punch he delivered to her face.

This unprovoked physical attack was followed by a deeply disturbing incident on February 15, 2021, when he raped her.

During her impact statement, the victim tearfully conveyed her fear for her life during the assault, emphasizing the severity of her trauma.

Throughout court proceedings, Barton displayed blatant disregard for the seriousness of his actions.

He repeatedly insisted that he was the true victim, showing no remorse for his conduct.

In his testimony, Barton claimed that the accusations against him were false and that the woman was, in fact, the aggressor in their relationship.

His defense was ultimately rejected by the jury, who found him guilty of the offences.

Initially, Barton was tried in November 2021, during which the jury was only able to convict him of assault by beating.

The jury could not reach a verdict on the rape charges at that time.

However, following a re-trial in May of this year, he was ultimately found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of assault by beating concerning the same woman.

The sentencing hearing took place at Isleworth Crown Court, where Judge His Honour Duncan delivered a stern judgment.

The judge stated that Barton demonstrated a complete lack of regard for his victim's well-being, remarking that the defendant maintained a narrative portraying her as unstable and dishonest.

The judge condemned his manipulative behavior, noting his attempts to undermine and gaslight the woman, and highlighted his pattern of misogynistic conduct both historically and in the current case.

In his speech, Judge Duncan emphasized that Barton’s actions had severely damaged the victim’s confidence and emotional stability.

He described Barton as a manipulative individual who, despite a facade of self-righteousness, inflicted ongoing psychological damage.

The judge pointed out how Barton’s behavior displayed a deeply disturbing pattern of violence towards women, and expressed concern that he had shown no genuine remorse or acceptance of responsibility.

Notably, the judge warned of an ongoing risk that Barton might reoffend against women.

As part of his sentence, Barton was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which requires him to inform the police of any new intimate relationships he enters into, with no expiration date.

Furthermore, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Chris Willey from the Central West Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit at Charing Cross police station described Barton as a dangerous serial offender with a history of violent assaults against women.

Willey noted that Barton’s criminal behavior had escalated over time, culminating in the recent rapes, which now serve as a safeguard to prevent further harm.

The detective praised the bravery of the victim, acknowledging her to have relived her trauma multiple times during court proceedings — an act of courage that should not be underestimated.

He expressed hope that her resilience would allow her to find closure and begin anew.

PC Sol Bhugaloo, who supported the victim throughout the investigation, committed publicly to encouraging others who have suffered sexual violence to come forward.

Bhugaloo reassured that victims would receive dedicated support from specially trained officers, emphasizing that their voices would be heard and their cases taken seriously.

The collective efforts of law enforcement aim to ensure justice and protect others from similar acts of violence in London.
