MAN JAILED FOR HOLDING WIFE AT KNIFEPOINT IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT
During a court hearing in Newport, it was revealed that a husband, driven by jealousy, restrained his wife on the cooking stove with a knife pressed to her neck.Aron Robinson, 37 years old, admitted charges of harassment that caused her to fear violence, along with a charge of common assault.
Prosecutor Carl Harrison explained that the incident followed a visit to the Open Hearth pub in Sebastopol on March 17, where the couple was with friends.
Outside, Robinson accused his wife, Tracey, of cuddling a male friend.
When she refused to walk home with him through a dark canal pathway, he grabbed her arm and attempted to drag her toward the water.
She cried out and retreated back into the pub.
Later, she spoke with him, during which he became threatening and abusive.
Robinson was waiting outside her home on Richmond Road, Pontnewydd, when she returned, claiming she was with the male friend.
He pushed her, which caused her to hit her head on a gatepost, then carried her into the house.
Inside, he held her on the hob and retrieved a ten-inch kitchen knife from a drawer.
He pressed the knife to her throat and threatened, 'I'll show you what I can do.
I'll kill myself if you leave.' When she tried to take her mobile phone, he bit it so hard in his mouth that he broke a tooth.
She responded by biting him, and he again pressed the knife to her neck, making threats.
At one point, he grasped her hands tightly enough to cause bruising.
The court heard that Robinson’s previous fiancée had died of meningitis while pregnant with their child, and his relationship with his wife was dissolving.
Additionally, his mother’s recent cancer diagnosis was said to have contributed to his violent behavior.
Judge Roderick Denyer QC sentenced him to 15 months imprisonment, describing the act as 'a disturbing example of domestic violence' that would have been 'terrifying' for his wife.
