HALIFAX SEX OFFENDER ANTHONY WEBSTER JAILED FOR GROOMING AND PREGNANT STEP-DAUGHTER
In May 2021, a Halifax man named Anthony Webster was sentenced to prison for sexually grooming his own step-daughter and causing her to become pregnant.Judge Neil Davey QC described Webster’s actions as a "massive breach of trust," stating that he had groomed Kaitlin Jenner to be his sexual plaything.
The judge explained that Webster, 47, had given the teenager treats and, later on, cannabis and alcohol, to make her feel as though she was "daddy’s special girl." Bradford Crown Court heard that Webster, of Glen Terrace in Halifax, began engaging in sexual activity with his step-daughter when she was only 15 years old.
Judge Davey noted that she was so infatuated with him that she continued to visit him even after her mother and Webster separated and moved to Scotland.
Following Webster’s conviction, which a jury returned last month, the victim chose to waive her right to anonymity.
The court learned that she became pregnant at age 16 and gave birth to a daughter in 2015.
In a victim impact statement read aloud by prosecutor Stephen Wood QC, the 23-year-old victim expressed that she was finally receiving justice for the abuse suffered.
She shared that she now feels "blessed" to have her daughter and hopes to move forward and leave the past behind after the trial and sentencing.
She also expressed her desire to make her daughter proud and not just see herself as a victim.
Webster, who had prior convictions for various offenses including assaults, burglary, and cannabis production, admitted to two charges of sexual activity with a child family member.
However, the jury found him guilty of two charges of sexual activity with a child under 16.
He was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the sex offenses.
Additionally, he received a two-year concurrent sentence for a violent assault on a man outside the Cat and Fiddle pub in Halifax in August 2019.
Judge Davey also sentenced Webster to two years concurrent imprisonment after he admitted to producing cannabis in a sophisticated grow-op found in his home’s cellar in February 2019.
As part of his sentence, Webster will be required to register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order limiting his contact with anyone under 16.
