Camberley Child Sexual Abuser
In March 2012, Anthony Wallis, aged 35 and from Esher Road, Camberley, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of five sexual offences. The offences included three counts of rape, one of indecent assault, and one of gross indecency, following a trial at Guildford Crown Court that concluded on March 16.
The court heard that Wallis had committed some of these offences when he was a teenager. Surrey Police praised the bravery of his victim for coming forward and stated that Wallis had been untruthful, describing his claims as "a pack of lies."
The victim, whose identity is protected by legal restrictions, expressed her fears, remarking, “My greatest fear is that someone like him might do the same to my kids.”
Detective Sergeant Paddy Mayers commented on the case, saying, “This sentence reflects the severity of the offences committed by this dangerous paedophile who preyed on vulnerable young children. I hope it will, to some extent, help the victim begin to move on with her life and feel that justice has been served.”
He continued, “The victim is to be commended for her bravery in coming forward, and it is thanks to her courage that the public and specifically young children will be protected from this insidious individual for some time. I am grateful that she trusted Surrey Police, allowing my team to investigate these allegations. I am also thankful that the jury could see through the defendant’s web of lies during a difficult trial that exposed the details of his crimes against his young victim.
“This should serve as a warning to anyone involved in or contemplating the sexual abuse of children: Surrey Police takes all such allegations seriously. We will investigate both recent and historical claims thoroughly.”
Wallis was arrested last year after the victim confided in her boyfriend about her experiences. Prosecutor Heather Duncan noted in court that, “She just didn’t feel strong enough before then.”
It was revealed during the trial that Wallis had previously been jailed for three years in September 2006, following convictions for three counts of indecent assault and one of gross indecency against a 12-year-old girl. The judge, Peter Moss, who sentenced Wallis last week, described this prior sentence as “quite lenient.”
Judge Moss also expressed concern for Wallis’s future, stating, “There are concerns for the future, as far as you are concerned.”
Additionally, it was announced that Wallis had been recalled to prison recently for approaching another young girl, despite being under a court order that prohibited him from having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.
