Calne Sexual Abuser
In December 2013, Anthony Sheen, a gamekeeper from Calne, was found guilty of multiple sexual assault charges involving a teenage girl. The court proceedings revealed that Sheen, aged 53, had engaged in inappropriate and abusive behavior towards a 15-year-old girl who was a family friend. The incidents took place over several months, with the court hearing that Sheen repeatedly touched the girl in a sexual manner and made lewd comments during their interactions.
According to the prosecution, led by Claire Marlow, the girl would sometimes accompany Sheen on his quad bike, and the abuse occurred both inside a grain shed and during outdoor rides. The court was informed that Sheen also provided the girl with money to buy top-up credits for her mobile phone and sent her inappropriate text messages, further exploiting her trust and vulnerability.
Sheen, who resides on Spreckley Road in Compton Bassett, Calne, pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual assault committed between early November of the previous year and late February of the current year. His defense attorney, Nick Fridd, acknowledged that his client had fully admitted to the charges, which was taken into account during sentencing.
Judge Douglas Field addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the offenses and the impact on the young victim. He stated, “You are a man of 53 and as a result of these pleas of guilty you have lost your good character. You have offended against this young girl of 15 who was known to you for many years and she was able to place a considerable amount of trust in you and you broke that by groping her on all these separate occasions.”
The judge also noted that the pre-sentence report recommended that Sheen participate in a sex offender treatment program, describing it as demanding and onerous. In light of the findings, Judge Field imposed a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered Sheen to complete the sex offenders’ course. Additionally, Sheen was subjected to a seven-year sexual offences prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for the same period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
