ACCRINGTON EX-SOLDIER JAILED AFTER BRANDISHING AIR RIFLE LIKE RAMBO
A former soldier who brandished a firearm in front of his ex-partner while 'running around like Rambo' has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.Anthony Quinn, 43, who previously served in the army and was convicted of drug offences in Germany, appeared in court and expressed remorse, stating he was embarrassed by his actions.
Quinn was found guilty of possessing an air rifle with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence after a trial.
The court heard he became angry after seeing his ex-partner earlier the same day.
He was sentenced to 15 months for possessing the firearm and an additional three months for neglecting his young son, totaling 18 months, to serve half before release on licence.
Judge Blake stated, 'You of all people ought to know that running around like Rambo in Accrington is going to frighten people,' acknowledging that Quinn did not intend to scare anyone.
Quinn dropped his son at his ex-partner's house before going to her residence with an air rifle.
His defense highlighted his cooperation with police, turning himself in three days later and helping locate the weapon.
Quinn addressed the court, apologizing, and explained he had been under great pressure before the incident.
He expressed willingness to seek mental health help, stating, 'I am very sorry your honour, I acted like an idiot.
If there is any chance of any mental help I will take it.'
