ANTHONY PITMAN SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN SWANSEA
Anthony Pitman, a 51-year-old man from Pontarddulais, has been formally sentenced to a substantial prison term of 21 years for his heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a teenage girl. The conviction was announced on April 14, following a conviction at Swansea Crown Court, where he was found guilty on Wednesday, April 12, of committing a total of 21 separate offences.
These offences spanned over a period of seven years, beginning in 2010 and continuing through 2017.
The disturbing series of crimes reportedly started when the victim was only 12 years old, highlighting the gross exploitation and manipulation at the hands of the offender over a significant period during her formative years.
The case has drawn serious attention to the dangers of child sexual exploitation and the importance of vigilant reporting.
Detective Constable James Llewellyn, representing South Wales Police, spoke about the case, emphasizing the severity of the abuse.
He stated, "The victim in this case was abused in the worst ways possible and Anthony Pitman exploited her for his own pleasure." He praised the bravery of the young woman who reported her ordeal, acknowledging her courage in coming forward despite the trauma she endured.
Llewellyn further expressed his hope that this case would serve as a strong reminder that law enforcement agencies are committed to supporting victims and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.
"I would like to praise her for the immense bravery she has shown in reporting what happened to police," he said.
The police representative underscored the message that society must condemn child sexual abuse in all its forms.
"This sentencing sends a clear message that child sexual exploitation will never be acceptable, and we will ensure anyone who engages in this type of behaviour will be brought to justice, as we have seen today," he added.
This case reinforces the ongoing efforts by authorities in Swansea and the wider South Wales region to combat sexual crimes against minors and to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behaviour by individuals like Anthony Pitman.
