ANTHONY LINTERN AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN HERTFORDSHIRE
A man identified as Anthony Lintern, who has been noted for his disturbing criminal activities involving child exploitation, has been formally sentenced to an indefinite term of imprisonment following his conviction for horrific crimes committed in Hertfordshire.Lintern, a former research chemist from Five Acres in Kings Langley, was found to have engaged in severe acts of child abuse and possession of child exploitation images.
Court proceedings detailed that he had created and possessed a vast collection of indecent images depicting children ranging from five to ten years old.
Authorities discovered that Lintern had collected approximately 20,000 such images, many of which were described as being of an extremely disturbing and horrific nature.
At the sentencing hearing at London Southwark Crown Court, Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC delivered a stark description of the material found in Lintern’s possession.
The judge referred to some of these images as being of the 'most disgusting, indeed horrific kind,' illustrating a catalogue of offenses against vulnerable young children that was truly appalling.
The severity of these images left the court in no doubt about the extent of Lintern's misconduct.
In delivering his sentence, Judge Rivlin stated: “Taken all in all, the charges you have pleaded guilty to amount to such a great catalogue of offences involving child abuse that it is difficult to grasp the scale of your offending.
It is just as difficult to grasp what has promoted a man like yourself to become so steeped in activities that involve the sexual exploitation of children and the literally immeasurable harm that was done to them.” He continued by highlighting that Lintern was responsible for 26 counts related to the making, downloading, and distribution of the illegal images.
These images included both photographs and video footage, many depicting some of the most heinous forms of abuse inflicted upon children.
Court records also revealed that Lintern, who was married for 24 years, had an obsession with the systematic sexual abuse of children.
It was uncovered that he had purchased a pack of nappies, which he admitted using, a detail that underscored the disturbing nature of his psychological profile.
Authorities found nearly 20,000 images stashed within Lintern’s residence in Kings Langley.
Among these shocking materials, three images dated back to 2002 showed Lintern himself abusing a toddler.
The court was told that Lintern had filmed himself engaging in acts of sexual assault on the innocent child.
Regarding the specific case involving the baby, Judge Rivlin commented: “Following your arrest, you confessed these crimes to the police.
These confessions are not only evidence of what you were capable of doing to a young child but also represent a clear and gross breach of trust.” A probation report, which assessed Lintern's dangerousness, was also referenced during the hearing.
The report characterized him as firmly entrenched in a pattern of sexual offending, concluding that the risk he poses would not diminish easily over time.
Legal representatives for Lintern, including his defense lawyer Ravi Dogra, acknowledged the severity of his situation and emphasized the importance of treatment.
Dogra stated, “This man, who once had a promising career as an undergraduate at Oxford, has lost everything as a result of his disturbing habits.” The court handed down a minimum sentence of three and a half years, after which a parole board will evaluate his suitability for release.
Additionally, Judge Rivlin ordered Lintern to participate in a sex offender treatment program while incarcerated, and he was also required to register permanently on the sex offenders' register.
Commenting on the case, DS Jason Tunn of the Metropolitan Paedophile Unit affirmed the seriousness of Lintern’s threat to children.
He stated: “The court, along with the probation service and a defence psychologist, has recognized that Anthony Lintern continues to pose a serious and real risk to children.
The sentence given reflects the view that he is a dangerous sexual predator.”
