Mansfield Rapist
In a case that has shocked the Mansfield community, Anthony King, aged 37, was convicted of a series of heinous crimes committed against an eight-year-old girl over a span of four years. The disturbing allegations came to light after a lengthy investigation and a nine-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

King, residing on Longford Walk in Mansfield, faced serious charges including two counts of rape, two counts of gross indecency with a child, and two counts of sexual assault on a minor. Throughout the trial, which concluded on a Tuesday, King maintained his innocence, denying all allegations brought against him.

Despite his denials, the jury found him guilty on all counts. The court's decision resulted in a substantial prison sentence of 14 years, reflecting the severity of the crimes and the impact on the young victim.

DC Phillip Musson, a member of the Sexual Exploitation Investigation Unit, provided insight into the case, stating, “King was arrested in November last year, 11 years after the offences took place.” He emphasized the bravery of the victim, who is now 18 years old, for coming forward and giving evidence in court despite the emotional toll.

“The victim has shown tremendous courage while giving evidence in court and having to face her abuser,” DC Musson said. “She will continue to be supported by officers from the Sexual Exploitation Investigation Unit.”

He also urged other victims of abuse to follow her example, encouraging them to report any incidents of abuse without fear of judgment or retaliation. The conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the importance of justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals in the community.

With King now behind bars, the community of Mansfield can find some solace in the knowledge that justice has been served, and that the perpetrator will be held accountable for his actions.
