ANTHONY HUTCHINSON FROM CREWE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE OF 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Crewe, Anthony James Hutchinson, a 50-year-old man residing on Wistaston Road, was convicted of multiple heinous sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. The incident, which took place in March 2008, involved a prolonged and brutal assault on a 16-year-old girl, who was then a student at Nantwich School.According to court proceedings, the young victim, now aged 21, had spent an evening with friends at a flat located on Edleston Road in Crewe. Both Hutchinson and his co-defendant, Anthony Lawrence Barber, aged 45 and from Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, were present at the gathering. During the course of the night, Hutchinson subjected the girl to repeated acts of sexual violence within the confines of the flat’s bedroom. The assault was not a one-time event; it was described as a prolonged ordeal that left the victim deeply traumatized.
Minutes after Hutchinson’s assault, Barber entered the scene and also committed a sexual assault on the same girl, raping her once more. The sequence of events highlighted the severity and brutality of the attack, which was reported to the police in July 2011. The case was initially brought before a jury in May of this year, but the jurors were unable to reach a verdict at that time.
Following a thorough trial at Liverpool Crown Court, Hutchinson was found guilty on three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. The court sentenced him to a total of 11 years in prison. Barber, who was convicted of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, received a sentence of seven and a half years.
Both men had denied the allegations throughout the proceedings, which spanned several years and involved extensive evidence. The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the vulnerability of the victim.
After the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Claire Jesson of Crewe CID issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of the case. She described the attack as “horrendous and prolonged,” noting that both defendants subjected the young girl to a degrading and brutal sexual assault that has had lasting effects on her life. DS Jesson praised the bravery of the victim and her family, acknowledging the dignity they maintained throughout the legal process. She also expressed hope that justice had been served and that the community could find some measure of closure following this tragic series of events.
