STEVENAGE MAN JAILED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGERS
A 58-year-old man from Stevenage, Anthony Gorringe, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being found guilty of numerous serious sexual offences. The court revealed that his criminal conduct began when a 15-year-old girl visited his workplace, a supermarket he was employed at, where he first assaulted her.
Over the following four years, he groomed her under a systematic scheme, ultimately raping and sexually assaulting her and convincing her to engage with other males.
He was also convicted of raping and sexually abusing a teenage boy during the years 2004 to 2007.
The court characterized Gorringe as a dangerous individual and a predatory, manipulative sexual deviant who exploited children vulnerable to his abuse.
The verdict included 22 counts of sex offences, such as three counts of rape involving the girl, two involving the boy, and one charge related to causing child prostitution.
Judge Stephen Lennard handed down a sentence of 24 years with an additional eight-year license period, allowing him to be recalled until he turns 90.
Hertfordshire Police highlighted the bravery of his victims who faced him in court and provided evidence.
Detective Inspector Iain MacPherson commented, 'Gorringe so thoroughly undermined the free will and self-esteem of two young people that their ability to testify against him is particularly commendable.'
