ANTHONY FIDDLER AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN BOURNE, LINCOLNSHIRE

In a significant and disturbing case that has captured local attention, Anthony Fiddler, a 38-year-old resident of Recreation Road in Bourne, Lincolnshire, has been sentenced to a prison term of four years and eight months after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offences.

The sentencing occurred at Lincoln Crown Court, where the gravity of his actions was laid bare, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over two decades.

Fiddler’s crimes came to light after he was discovered attempting to meet what he believed to be underage girls at a church in Bourne.

The police had arranged a sting operation, with decoys positioned at a local church—specifically Bourne Abbey Church—and a civilian witness present at the scene.

When Fiddler arrived, law enforcement officers intervened immediately, leading to his arrest.

Authorities found on his mobile phone a collection of indecent images of children, with a total of 124 images classified as Category A (the most severe), 86 as Category B, and a staggering 630 images as Category C.

These images ranged from explicit photographs to videos, marking a disturbing level of possession of child exploitation material.

The court was also informed that Fiddler had engaged in online conversations with a 15-year-old boy and two decoys, all pretending to be girls under the age of 16.

Prosecutor Caroline Bradley explained that Fiddler initiated contact after responding to an advertisement for gardening services, which he thought was an opportunity to connect with minors.

This contact occurred between May 17 and May 24, 2021.

During these exchanges, Fiddler requested explicit images and even sent a sexual image of himself to one of the decoys.

The case further revealed that Fiddler confessed to having sexual communications with the 15-year-old boy, and he also pleaded guilty to causing the boy to view a sexual act on May 24, 2021.

In addition to these online interactions, Fiddler admitted to attempting to initiate sexual contact with two girls aged 12 and 14 between May 24 and May 25, 2021.

These attempts involved messages aimed at encouraging the girls to engage in sexual acts, attempts that he has accepted as criminal behavior.

The girls involved in these chats were ultimately revealed to be decoys, a detail that highlights the importance of ongoing police decoy operations in uncovering such misconduct.

The prosecution emphasized that these disturbing incidents were not isolated acts.

Fiddler’s history also includes a much older charge dating back to August 2000, with him admitting to creating indecent images of children over a period extending into November 2020.

The photographs he possessed contributed to the large quantity of illicit material recovered.

During the sentencing hearing, Fiddler’s defense requested that the court adjourn the proceedings to allow for the preparation of a probation report and to evaluate whether he might benefit from community treatment.

His defense argued that he was struggling to come to terms with his actions.

It was revealed that, aside from his recent offences, Fiddler had a previous conviction for exposure from 2005, which added weight to concerns about his risk to the public.

Judge John Pini QC, addressing the court, expressed grave concern over Fiddler’s intent to meet one of the decoys at Bourne Abbey Church.

While he stated that he did not consider Fiddler to be presently dangerous, he warned that the man’s behavior was heading in that direction.

The judge emphasized the seriousness of Fiddler’s conduct and underscored the breach of trust and the potential harm caused by his actions, ultimately sentencing him to nearly five years in prison and placing him under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

This case has served as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding online exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior in Lincolnshire and beyond.
