ANTHONY EKPENYONG AND SHOCKING CRIMES IN LONDON
Fans of TikTok musician Anthony Q Lion, whose real name is Anthony Ekpenyong, are deeply upset and feel betrayed after discovering that their idol failed to disclose his rape conviction while soliciting thousands of pounds in donations during his final performance.Ekpenyong, a 37-year-old neo soul singer from Chadwell Heath in East London, had cultivated an image as a devoted father and husband, presenting himself as a caring and supportive figure to his followers.
However, behind this facade, he concealed a dark and disturbing secret.
It was revealed that Ekpenyong had been convicted of serious sexual offenses, including raping a woman who repeatedly begged him to stop during the assault.
The victim, who was subjected to forced digital penetration and other non-consensual acts, endured a harrowing experience that she described as being akin to a helpless lamb caught in barbed wire.
She recounted her feelings of anger, helplessness, and being broken in pieces as a result of the attack.
The court heard that she had pleaded with Ekpenyong 107 times to cease his actions, with her screams of 'Ouch' and 'No' recorded on audio evidence presented during the trial.
Despite his conviction, Ekpenyong was allowed to leave custody on bail ahead of his sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court last Thursday, November 2.
This decision was unusual and was made because the court lacked a custody suite at the facility where he was initially held.
Judge Noel Casey acknowledged the exceptional nature of this arrangement, stating, "It would not normally happen for someone convicted of an offence of this kind." The victim expressed her confusion and distress over the fact that her attacker was permitted to remain in the community while awaiting sentencing.
Ekpenyong had denied the rape charges, attempting to portray the incident as a misunderstanding, claiming that her pleas to stop were actually her begging to end their relationship.
However, the jury was presented with compelling evidence, including the audio recording of the assault, which clearly demonstrated his guilt.
The court found him guilty, and he was subsequently sentenced to seven years in prison.
Throughout the period between his conviction and sentencing, Ekpenyong continued to exploit his social media following.
He was active on TikTok, where he posted numerous videos, including heartfelt messages thanking his fans for their support.
On the day he was convicted, he uploaded a video expressing his gratitude, stating, "I really really really do appreciate everything you've done, and your support is priceless.
There's no doubt I will always remember you...
Thank you for all you have done." He also shared a series of emotional videos titled 'In My Daughter's Eyes,' where he sang about his young girl, further cultivating his image as a caring family man.
In his final TikTok livestream, which he announced as his last, Ekpenyong sat with his wife and daughter, addressing thousands of viewers.
He spoke about life's challenges and the importance of resilience, saying, "Life is going to throw things at you that are going to question who you are.
People are going to say stuff about you that's going to question...
You're gonna doubt yourself, or you may doubt yourself because of what people say." During this broadcast, he performed 'He Lives In You' from The Lion King, which quickly became TikTok's Weekly Number 1, with over 134,000 gifts flooding his account within minutes.
These gifts, which ranged from 1p to £400 each, likely generated significant income, although the exact amount remains unclear.
Following his conviction, some fans expressed their anger and feelings of betrayal, sharing videos and comments suggesting that they had been misled about his character.
Many had previously sent him large gifts, including some worth up to £400, and had supported him financially through platforms like GoFundMe and Amazon Wishlist, where he sought funds for equipment and other personal projects.
Despite the serious nature of his crimes, TikTok has not taken any action to remove his account, citing a lack of violations of community guidelines at this time.
The controversy surrounding Ekpenyong extends beyond his social media activities.
It was reported that he had previously partnered with TikTok, appearing on the tiktoklive_uk channel in June, claiming he wanted to help and empower others.
At that time, he was already under arrest and facing multiple charges, including three counts of rape and one count of digital penetration assault.
TikTok was reportedly unaware of these charges when he appeared on their platform.
The victim described her ordeal as a traumatic experience that left her feeling powerless and isolated.
She emphasized that her assault did not define her, but it revealed Ekpenyong's true character.
Her testimony highlighted the brutality of the attack and the emotional scars it left behind.
In court, Ekpenyong's defense argued that the rape was a momentary lapse, describing it as a 'complete aberration' and claiming that his actions were impulsive.
However, Judge Casey dismissed these claims, stating that Ekpenyong had used his physical strength to overpower her despite her protests and pleas.
The judge also pointed out that Ekpenyong's own evidence contradicted the audio recordings, which clearly depicted the victim's distress.
As Ekpenyong begins his prison sentence, the ongoing debate about his social media presence and the responsibilities of platforms like TikTok continues.
Many call for his account to be banned, but currently, no plans have been announced to remove his profile unless violations of community standards are identified.
The case has sparked widespread discussion about accountability, online influence, and the importance of safeguarding victims of sexual violence.
