MAN SENTENCED IN GRIMSBY FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A 60-year-old man from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, identified as Anthony Dugard, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of nine separate child sexual abuse offences. The sentencing took place at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, 22 November, following a detailed investigation conducted by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU).
Authorities arrested Dugard on 4 July 2024 in Swindon, where he had travelled with the apparent intent of meeting a child for the purpose of sexual abuse.
However, instead of encountering a minor, Dugard was met by officers from SWROCU, who had been conducting a proactive operation targeting online child exploitation.
The operation was led by the Online Investigations Team, a specialized unit working in conjunction with a broader network of law enforcement agencies across the country to combat online child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Following his arrest, Dugard was taken into custody and subsequently pleaded guilty to four charges related to child sexual offences.
During the investigation, authorities examined his mobile phone, which revealed evidence of additional offences.
This evidence pointed to further abuse committed against a real child, a 15-year-old girl, who was subjected to coercion and exploitation over several months.
The victim was able to provide crucial testimony that helped establish Dugard’s guilt in these additional offences.
As a result, Dugard was charged with five more counts of child sexual abuse, to which he also pleaded guilty.
The court heard that his actions had caused significant harm to the young girl, and the judge, JN Townsend, acknowledged her bravery in engaging with the criminal justice process.
In delivering the sentence, the judge emphasized the importance of protecting victims and ensuring justice was served.
Anthony Dugard was sentenced to four years in prison for his crimes.
Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a period of 15 years.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his offences and the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to combat child exploitation in the region.
