ANTHONY DICKINSON FROM YORK CAUGHT WITH CHILD SEX IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that unfolded in York, Anthony Dickinson, a 68-year-old resident of Rowntree Avenue, Clifton, found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation involving child exploitation and possession of extreme pornography.The incident began when Dickinson's wife became increasingly concerned about his whereabouts on September 7 of the previous year.
Fearing for his safety and worried about his prolonged absence, she contacted the police to report her concerns.
While authorities were actively searching for Dickinson, he unexpectedly made a distressing 999 emergency call from a phone box located in Northallerton.
During this call, Dickinson confessed to viewing and possessing explicit images of children on the internet, along with extreme pornography.
His tone was reportedly suicidal, which prompted immediate concern from the responding officers.
The police managed to locate Dickinson later that same night, and he was subsequently referred to mental health professionals for assessment and support.
Following a thorough investigation, Dickinson faced multiple charges related to his online activities.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of possessing indecent images of children and eight counts of possessing extreme pornography.
The case was heard at York Crown Court, where Judge Jim Spencer QC addressed Dickinson directly.
The judge remarked, "You have been looking at things you should not have looked at.
You yourself telephoned police when you could not stand it on your conscience any more.
There is always a victim even though you cannot see it.
These pictures have to be taken.
These children and other people have to be subjected to that kind of treatment." In sentencing, Judge Spencer imposed a 12-month prison sentence, but it was suspended for two years.
As part of the conditions for this suspension, Dickinson was ordered to undergo two years of supervision and participate in a sex offender treatment program.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders' register for a period of ten years and was subject to a sexual offences prevention order.
This order requires him to provide the police with details of his internet activity upon request.
During the investigation, police confiscated Dickinson’s computer, discovering a total of 453 images and videos depicting extreme pornography, along with 137 indecent images of children.
Authorities also found notebooks containing references to underage sexual activity, further evidencing his involvement in illegal and harmful material.
Dickinson’s defense attorney, Peter Byrne, did not offer any mitigation during the sentencing hearing, especially after the judge indicated that the prison sentence would be suspended under the circumstances.
