Chingford Child Sexual Abuser
In August 2017, Anthony Coraldean, a 58-year-old resident of Vincent Road, Chingford, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of “abhorrent” sexual assaults committed against a girl under the age of 14.

Coraldean subjected his victim to two years of “appalling” sexual abuse during 1989 and 1990. The victim, now in her 40s, summoned “incredible courage” to come forward to the police nearly 27 years after the crimes occurred.

In September of the previous year, she disclosed to authorities that Coraldean had forced her to perform various sexual acts against her will over that two-year period. Following her disclosure, police quickly apprehended Coraldean, who was arrested and formally charged in October.

Coraldean denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges. After a seven-day trial in July, he was convicted of three counts of indecent assault on a child under 14 and one count of child cruelty affecting a child under 14.

He was acquitted of two additional counts of indecent assault. Despite the acquittals, he will be required to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the duration of his life.
