ANTHONY CHELL FROM MANSFIELD CAUGHT IN ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES IN MANSFIELD AND SKEGNESS
In August 2020, a significant case of online predatory behavior was brought to light involving Anthony Chell, a 50-year-old resident of Mansfield.Chell was sentenced after being caught in a sting operation conducted by paedophile hunters, who exposed his attempts to engage in sexual activities with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl from Skegness.
According to reports, Chell, living on Moor Street in Mansfield, initiated contact with an online account that he believed belonged to a young girl from the east coast.
The account was actually operated by members of an activist group dedicated to exposing online predators.
In October 2019, Chell made contact with this account and soon after, engaged in a series of conversations that escalated in inappropriate and illegal behavior.
During the exchange, Chell not only attempted to persuade the supposed minor to perform a sex act over the phone but also later engaged in a sexual act himself during a subsequent conversation.
Unbeknownst to him, he was speaking to an adult member of the activist group, who recorded the incident as evidence.
The recordings were subsequently handed over to the police, prompting immediate action.
Chell was confronted at his home by members of the online group before law enforcement officers arrived to arrest him on October 20 of the previous year.
The police confirmed that while they investigate such cases, they do not endorse or support the methods used by some online activist groups, emphasizing the importance of proper legal procedures.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, August 27, Chell faced justice.
He was sentenced to a 30-month community order for attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Additionally, he was ordered to participate in a sexual offending group work program for up to 90 days and was subject to a rehabilitation order requiring 20 days of participation.
Furthermore, Chell received a concurrent 30-month community order for attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was also placed on the Sexual Offences Register for five years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an additional five years, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
