ANTHONY ASHLEY FROM LICHFIELD SENTENCED TO 22 YEARS FOR CHILD ABUSE CRIMES
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Lichfield, Anthony Ashley, a 61-year-old man, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 22 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses committed against young girls during the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s.The sentencing took place at Stafford Crown Court following a detailed two-week trial during which the court heard harrowing accounts from four victims who bravely came forward to recount their experiences.
These accounts detailed a pattern of abuse that spanned over a decade, with incidents occurring between 1977 and 1989.
Judge Jonathan Gosling, presiding over the case, expressed his condemnation of Ashley’s actions, stating, “You must’ve thought you’d got away with these revolting crimes.” The judge also commended the victims for their remarkable courage and resilience in coming forward, describing them as “dignified, courageous, modest and utterly decent.” He further criticized Ashley for his apparent lack of remorse, noting that he called his victims “liars” despite the evidence against him.
The court proceedings revealed that Ashley’s abuse began when one victim was only eight years old, with another victim subjected to abuse at the age of nine.
Two additional girls were also targeted, with one being assaulted when she was 12 and another between the ages of 13 and 15.

Anthony Ashley, who resides in Chadswell Heights, Lichfield, was found guilty on multiple counts.
He was convicted of two counts of rape, ten counts of indecent assault, and two counts of gross indecency.
However, he was acquitted of one count of indecent assault, which indicates that the jury or judge did not find sufficient evidence to convict on that particular charge.
As part of his sentence, Ashley has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential future harm.
