ANN TIMMINS SENTENCED IN COVENTRY FOR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH 13-YEAR-OLD BOY
In a case that has shocked the Coventry community, Ann Timmins, a woman with ties to the city, has been sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.The incident, which spanned over a year and a half, involved a series of inappropriate and illegal acts that have now come to light through court proceedings.
Timmins, aged 40, was brought before Birmingham Crown Court where Judge Recorder Mr.
Nicholas Jarman QC delivered the verdict.
The judge described the relationship as one that persisted for at least 18 months, during which various forms of sexual activity took place.
He emphasized the significant age difference, noting that Timmins was nearly three times the age of her young victim.
The court was told that the sexual encounters only involved full intercourse after the boy’s 13th birthday, a detail that influenced the sentencing.
In his remarks, the judge acknowledged the difficult circumstances surrounding Timmins, stating, “It was a relationship that continued for at least 18 months and which covered various aspects of sexual intercourse.
He was very young and you were almost three times his age.” The court also ordered that Timmins be registered as a sex offender for ten years, reflecting the severity of her actions.
Timmins, who resides on Braymore Road in the Tile Cross area of Birmingham, had previously admitted to two counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency.
The prosecution, led by Andreeja Chatterjee, outlined the timeline of events, revealing that the relationship began in 1998 when Timmins’ husband was away in America.
The victim, who had no prior sexual experience, gradually became closer to Timmins, often visiting her home during lunchtimes and sometimes after school hours.
According to the prosecution, the visits involved hugging and kissing, with some encounters taking place in the presence of other family members, including Timmins’ children.
The situation escalated to full sexual intercourse in the front room of her house.
The boy, who sometimes stayed overnight, was described as vulnerable and inexperienced.
Timmins reportedly expressed her love for him during their interactions.
The relationship was ultimately exposed when the boy’s aunt informed his mother about the inappropriate conduct.
The court heard that the case was not one of deliberate abuse but rather a developing relationship that had unfortunately crossed legal boundaries.
Defense lawyer Stephen Parker argued that Timmins did not intentionally seek to harm the boy but acknowledged the relationship’s progression and its serious implications.
