A man named Angus McCandlish, residing at Millerslea, Dumbarton Road, Milton, has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman as she lay sleeping with her partner. The incident occurred in September 2014 at a property in Westcliff.
McCandlish was found guilty by a jury at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week of getting into the bed, lying behind the woman, and placing a hand inside her pants to touch her.
During the trial, the woman's partner, a 24-year-old man who cannot be named, described waking up to find McCandlish in their bed, facing away from him, and being nudged to get out.
The woman woke up to find her clothes undone and her zip down, realizing McCandlish's presence in her bed.
McCandlish admitted to the court that he was embarrassed and sorry about the incident, which he described as living with for the rest of his life.
He was convicted of sexual assault, a charge reduced from the original 'intent to rape' indictment.
Sheriff Simon Pender deferred sentencing until December 9 for reports.
