ANDRIS DOZBERGS AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD OFFENSES IN PETERBOROUGH
Andris Dozbergs, a 56-year-old man from Peterborough, was recently convicted and sentenced to prison for his involvement in numerous child exploitation crimes, including possessing a large number of indecent images of children. His case drew significant media attention after police uncovered disturbing evidence during the investigation.
The chain of events began when authorities were alerted to a Facebook account that had uploaded indecent images depicting children.
This social media activity prompted a police response, leading officers to visit Dozbergs’ residence located on Dogsthorpe Road in Peterborough in May of the previous year.
At first, Dozbergs refused to allow the police entry into his home, a common tactic during initial police visits.
However, after some insistence, he eventually permitted access, and law enforcement personnel proceeded to conduct a detailed search of his property.
During the search, the officers discovered two mobile phones, a laptop, and a can of pepper spray.
The presence of these items raised suspicions, especially considering the contents of the electronic devices.
Dozbergs was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.
During police interviews, he fiercely denied having any sexual interest in minors and claimed that he was not responsible for the images on his devices.
Instead, he alleged that strangers had sent him over 1,000 such images, which he simply saved on his phone, maintaining he had not viewed or shared them.
Further details emerged regarding the can of pepper spray, which Dozbergs admitted he purchased two years prior in Latvia.
He stated that he bought it for self-defense, believing it contained a mixture of pepper and tear gas.
The police, however, found this claim unconvincing, as the spray was considered a prohibited weapon under law.
While on bail, police officers conducted a second visit to Dozbergs’ home.
During this subsequent search, more electronic devices were seized.
A forensic examination revealed a shocking collection of 1,053 indecent images spread across multiple devices.
These images were categorized into three levels of severity: 419 classified as Category C, 371 as Category B, and 263 as Category A—the most serious and explicit thumbnails.
The prosecution charged Dozbergs with multiple offenses, including three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of prohibited images of children, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
After a plea of guilty was entered at Cambridge Crown Court in July, the case proceeded to sentencing.
On August 25, at Peterborough Crown Court, Dozbergs was sentenced to a year in prison.
Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed for ten years to monitor and prevent any future offending behaviors.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and underlines the severe consequences faced by individuals involved in such criminal activities in Peterborough.
