ANDREW WOOD AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER CASE IN HARTLEPOOL
A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to two years in prison after specialist police officers uncovered thousands of threatening messages aimed at a woman, including threats to leak private photographs. The incident took place in Hartlepool, where Andrew Wood, aged 33, became the subject of a detailed investigation following a routine, unannounced police visit.
During the visit, officers expressed suspicion that Wood had been deleting data from his mobile device.
As part of their standard procedure, they seized his phone for forensic analysis.
The examination revealed that Wood had sent numerous messages—amounting to thousands—threatening to share intimate photos and videos of the woman with her friends and family.
Additionally, investigators discovered that he had posted images of her child online, making them accessible to other sex offenders.
Following these findings, Wood was promptly arrested and charged with multiple offenses.
He was remanded in custody and appeared in court for sentencing.
The sentence of two years imprisonment was welcomed by the specialist officers responsible for monitoring convicted sex offenders, including Wood, as his actions directly violated the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Detective Constable Malissa Haines, a member of the Sex Offender Management Unit, commented on the case: “Wood caused his victim serious mental harm by bombarding her with over 16,000 unwanted calls, messages, and emails over an 18-month period.
These communications included threats to disclose private, intimate images.” She further expressed her gratitude to the victim for her bravery in reporting the crimes and supporting the investigation.
“I would like to thank the lady for being strong enough to come forward and report these vile acts.
I hope that Wood’s imprisonment and the restraining order will offer her some measure of reassurance and relief,” Haines added.
