Walton-on-the-Naze Child Sexual Abuser
In February 2019, a music teacher and organist who falsely claimed to have performed at over 1,000 weddings was convicted of numerous sexual offences. Andrew Simon Wilson, aged 57, used his status as a performer to groom and abuse young boys. He faced a trial for 19 sexual offences, 16 of which involved three boys aged between nine and 14. Wilson described himself on his website as being 'reliable, qualified and experienced,' but on Friday, February 15, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Lewes Crown Court.

Detectives from Sussex Police stated that Wilson exploited his position as an experienced musician to isolate and groom underage boys. He resides on Norwood Way in Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex. Wilson was found guilty on Tuesday, February 12, after a 17-day trial.

Some of the criminal conduct occurred in South London during his tenure as a choirmaster and music teacher at St Mary’s Church in Beddington. The majority of his offending was in Warnham, West Sussex, near Crawley. His abusive actions span several decades, with crimes dating back to the 1980s and as recent as 2011.

Sussex Police released a detailed list of Wilson’s convictions earlier in the week. His 19 offences include:

- Two counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency against a boy in Warnham during the mid-1980s;

- Eight counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency on another boy in Warnham in the same period;

- One case of sexual assault and one meeting a child for sexual activity involving a different boy between 2008 and 2011, with incidents in South London and during choir tours in Germany;

- Three counts involving the making of 1,366 indecent images of children.

The trial judge instructed the jury to find Wilson not guilty on one additional count of alleged indecent assault in Warnham during the 1980s.

Wilson is now designated as a sex offender for life and has been issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The investigation was conducted by Sussex Police’s Public Protection Command. His crimes in Warnham occurred while he served as choirmaster at St Margaret’s Church, and the offences in South London and Germany took place during his time at St Mary’s Church, Beddington.

Police found the indecent images—believed to have been downloaded from the internet—during a search of Wilson’s address following his arrest.
