MAN BANNED FROM CONTACTING DAUGHTER AFTER SPITTING ON HER AND MAKING THREATS
A GREENOCK man has admitted to spitting on his daughter and making ableist remarks towards her.Andrew Monaghan, 45, pleaded guilty at Greenock Sheriff Court to spitting on the woman’s body which landed on her clothing, and uttering threats of violence.
He was charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, and shouting and swearing, and it is said that the offence was aggravated by prejudice relating to disability.
The offence took place at a property in Prospecthill Street in Greenock on September 2 this year.
Monaghan was represented in court by defence solicitor Amy Spencer.
Ms Spencer highlighted that the accused had co-operated fully with the social work department and was assessed as ‘low risk’.
Sheriff James Varney said Monaghan, of Prospecthill Street, had attempted to minimise the offence in the social work report.
He said: “I have concerns about the way he explains it to social work, and that the issues are not resolved.
“He almost downplays it.” Sheriff Varney made a non-harassment order which prevents Monaghan from approaching or contacting his daughter for six months.
He is subject to a three-month review and will return to court on February 11.
His bail order was revoked and he has been ordained to appear.
