ANDREW MCQUARRIE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS IN KIRKCUDBRIGHT
In November 2014, a resident of Kirkcudbright, Andrew McQuarrie, faced serious allegations after authorities uncovered disturbing evidence of child exploitation in his home. The investigation was initiated after police received specific intelligence that prompted a search warrant, leading to a detailed examination of McQuarrie’s computer equipment.During the search, law enforcement officials discovered two videos depicting children engaged in sexual acts, alongside a collection of indecent photographs of minors. These materials were deemed highly illegal and deeply troubling, prompting immediate legal action. McQuarrie, aged 38 and residing on Merse Drive in Kirkcudbright, was present at Dumfries Sheriff Court on a Tuesday to face the charges.
At the court hearing, McQuarrie admitted to the possession of indecent photographs of children and to taking or allowing the taking of such images between December 2012 and January of the following year. He also claimed during police interviews, “I’ve never touched a child. It was just curiosity,” attempting to justify his actions. Despite his statement, the court was informed of the severity of his offenses.
The prosecution highlighted that the police’s investigation was thorough, and the evidence collected was substantial. Sheriff George Jamieson ordered McQuarrie to be placed on the sex offenders’ register and postponed sentencing until January to allow for comprehensive background reports to be prepared. The court’s decision underscores the gravity of the crimes committed.
Supporting the police effort, Detective Sergeant Scott Young emphasized the importance of safeguarding children and assured the public that Police Scotland remains committed to pursuing individuals involved in such heinous activities. “In our aim to keep people safe, Police Scotland will work tirelessly to apprehend people who get involved in this disgusting business,” he stated. “The wellbeing of our children is a priority for us and when they become the victims of crime, we will pursue everyone involved in order to bring them to justice.”
Furthermore, a spokesperson for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) issued a stark warning about the nature of these crimes. They stressed that such images are not mere pictures but are equivalent to crime scenes, and viewing them constitutes a serious offense. The spokesperson called for sentencing that accurately reflects the gravity of the crimes and warned that individuals who seek out indecent images of children are at increased risk of committing further offenses, including more serious abuse. They highlighted that evidence suggests a disturbing pattern where offenders may escalate their behavior, potentially leading to actual harm against children in the future.
