ANDREW MASON FROM GRIMSBY JAILED FOR GROOMING PLOT IN ONLINE SCAM
In a serious case that highlights the dangers of online predators, Andrew Mason, a 23-year-old man from Grimsby, has been sentenced to prison after attempting to groom a child for sexual activity through online communications.Andrew Mason appeared before Grimsby Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to four separate counts of attempting to incite a child into engaging in sexual activities.
The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Mason's online behavior, which involved him making contact with what he believed was a young child’s profile.
According to court reports, Mason engaged in sending highly sexualized messages and explicit images, clearly aiming to groom the individual for sexual encounters.
His actions included making arrangements to meet the supposed child in person, demonstrating a clear intent to carry out illegal activities.
However, the individual Mason believed he was communicating with was not a child at all but an adult member of the Essex Child Protectors, a paedophile hunting team that operates online by posing as children to catch predators.
The team, after gathering evidence of Mason’s online conduct, handed the information over to law enforcement authorities.
In August 2018, officers from a specialized unit visited Mason’s residence to confront him.
The property, which is registered as a facility for individuals with learning difficulties, complicated the situation, as the team was unable to question Mason directly about his internet activity during the visit.
Subsequently, a member of the paedophile hunting team contacted the police, leading to Mason’s arrest at the scene.
The authorities took swift action, and Mason was detained and brought into custody.
During the court hearing, the judge sentenced Mason to 12 months in prison for his actions.
Additionally, Mason was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was required to pay a court surcharge of £140.
