Chester Mouldsworth Rapist
In a harrowing case that spanned nearly a decade, Andrew Gregory, aged 48, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl from Chester and Mouldsworth. The abuse, which began when the girl was just seven years old, persisted for approximately nine years, from 2001 until 2011, according to court records and testimonies presented during the trial.

Gregory, who listed his residence as Birch Farm Caravan Park in Mouldsworth, was only brought to justice after the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, found the courage to report her ordeal last May. The revelation of her suffering prompted a police investigation, leading to Gregory’s arrest. Initially, Gregory denied the allegations, claiming that the girl was lying. However, during the proceedings at Chester Crown Court, new evidence emerged that compelled him to change his plea.

He admitted to six counts of rape, along with additional charges of sexual assault, indecency with a child, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that Gregory’s abuse was systematic and deeply damaging, with the victim suffering from the trauma for years. Judge David Hale described Gregory’s actions as a “long-standing campaign of persistent sexual abuse,” emphasizing the profound impact on the girl, who is now an adult.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Hale stated, “You have pleaded guilty to a catalogue of serious sexual abuse covering a period of about nine years. The sexual abuse began, as it often does, at a relatively low level and became so commonplace to her and so commonplace to you that she submitted to your sexual desires. You robbed her of her childhood.”

Gregory was sentenced to serve 15 years behind bars and was informed that he would be placed on the sex offenders register for life. It was also revealed that Gregory was already serving an eight-month sentence for theft, having stolen thousands of pounds from a caravan park, which added to his criminal record.

Prosecutor John Wyn Williams detailed the betrayal of trust involved in the case, noting that Gregory worked as a lorry driver and exploited the trust placed in him by the young girl. “He abused that trust for his own sexual gratification and subjected her to a catalogue of sexual abuse,” Williams explained. The abuse escalated from indecent assault to full penetrative rape when the girl was 13 years old. Gregory’s misconduct included abusing her inside his lorry cab, showing her pornographic films, and even asking whether another man could join in with the acts.

The psychological toll on the victim was severe. She now suffers from paranoia, panic attacks, and a lack of confidence. She struggles with trust issues and experiences flashbacks, which have significantly altered her life. After moving away from the Chester area, she finally found the strength to report Gregory’s crimes, despite his attempts to intimidate her through controlling and nasty messages.

Initially, Gregory pleaded not guilty to all charges in February, but as new witnesses came forward, he indicated a willingness to change his plea. His defense attorney, Mark Le Brocq, acknowledged that there was little to defend but noted Gregory’s display of “some remorse” and argued that his late guilty plea spared the victim from the ordeal of testifying in court.

As part of his sentence, Judge Hale imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits Gregory from associating with children and from attempting to contact his victim in any way. The case underscores the devastating effects of long-term sexual abuse and highlights the importance of justice for victims who find the courage to come forward.
