ANDREW FURBEY FROM WYTHENSHAWE SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE RAPE OFFENSES AGAINST GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Wythenshawe and the wider Greater Manchester area, Andrew William John Furbey, aged 27, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of a young girl. Furbey, who does not have a fixed address but is known locally in Wythenshawe, was convicted of nine counts of rape following a thorough trial at Manchester Crown Court.

The criminal acts spanned over five and a half years, beginning in September 2003 and continuing until March 2009. The victim, a girl who was only 12 years old at the time of the first assault, endured repeated violations by Furbey throughout her childhood, until she reached the age of 17. The prolonged nature of these offenses highlights the severity and the devastating impact on the victim’s life.

The sentencing comes after Furbey was found guilty of all nine counts of rape during an earlier hearing, marking a significant step in justice for the young girl who suffered at his hands. The case has drawn attention to the importance of addressing sexual crimes against minors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.

Detective Sergeant Suzanne Keenaghan, speaking on behalf of Greater Manchester Police, expressed her support for the victim and emphasized the difficulty faced during the investigation. She stated, “This has been an extremely difficult time for the victim. She has had to suffer at the hands of Furbey for over five years. It wasn’t until she was older that she had the courage to come forward and report it to police.”

Sergeant Keenaghan also reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to justice, saying, “Greater Manchester Police is committed to bringing perpetrators of these serious crimes against children to justice and I hope this sentence helps her find some closure.”
