ANDREW FLECKNELL SENTENCED IN CAERPHILLY FOR REPEATED CHILD SEX ABUSE AFTER NSPCC SCHOOL TALK
A man named Andrew Flecknell from the Caerphilly area has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly raping a young girl. The conviction followed a series of disturbing events that came to light after the victim herself disclosed her ordeal.
Her revelation was prompted by her participation in a children’s education program called PANTS, which was presented at her school, and it was during this session that she recognized the abusive behavior and decided to confide in her mother.
Andrew Flecknell, aged 38, and residing in the Bedwas region of Caerphilly, was condemned by Judge Lucy Crowther at Cardiff Crown Court.
The judge described the case as a “campaign of rape,” emphasizing the severity and ongoing nature of the abuse.
Flecknell was accused of sexually assaulting the young girl on multiple occasions, with the victim herself unable to recall the exact number of incidents due to their frequency and traumatic impact.
Prosecutor Clare Wilks presented a victim impact statement read aloud in court by the girl’s mother.
The statement conveyed the profound and lasting effects of the abuse, describing it as “massive” in its impact.
The mother expressed her heartbreak, stating, “This has had a massive impact on her.
I still don’t feel as if this is real, it’s heart-breaking.
This is hideous.” She also praised her daughter’s resilience, noting her bravery in coming forward despite the trauma.
The victim, described as a “fun, caring, and smart child,” has shown signs of emotional distress, including episodes of being upset for no apparent reason.
Her innocence and positive traits have been overshadowed by the trauma inflicted upon her.
Flecknell admitted to four counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault during the proceedings.
His legal representative, Kevin Seal, highlighted that Flecknell’s guilty pleas and lack of prior convictions were mitigating factors.
Seal also mentioned that Flecknell has suffered from anxiety and depression, and that he has deficiencies in his thinking, acknowledging that the defendant is aware of the fact that he will face a lengthy custodial sentence and believes he deserves it.
Judge Crowther addressed Flecknell directly, stating, “It was as a result of the PANTS class that she told her mum of what you had done.
She told her you had put your private parts into her.
The victim said this had happened more times than she can remember.
It is too early to say what the future holds for her.” The judge further condemned Flecknell’s initial denial of any sexual interest in children, calling it “nonsense” and affirming that he is a paedophile who is sexually attracted to children.
She described him as a “dangerous offender” who appears unaware of the full extent of his actions.
As part of his sentence, Flecknell will be required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
