ANDREW EVANS FROM CROWBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN EAST GRINSTEAD AND UCKFIELD
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the local communities, Andrew Evans, a 36-year-old man formerly residing on Church Road in Crowborough, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offences involving minors. The crimes, which span multiple locations including East Grinstead and Uckfield, have raised serious concerns about the safety of children and the oversight of individuals working with vulnerable youngsters.Evans pleaded guilty to four separate charges of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy he met in East Grinstead last year. The offences also included one count of arranging and facilitating sexual activity with the minor. The court was informed that Evans had met the boy at an isolated car park, where he committed a series of sexual acts. The victim, a disabled 15-year-old, was reportedly approached and assaulted by Evans, who attempted to maintain contact with him afterward. However, the boy, after blocking Evans and confiding in his school and parents, helped authorities uncover the extent of Evans' misconduct.
Further investigations revealed that Evans had also sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 13 in Uckfield. During the course of the police inquiry, officers discovered that Evans had been in possession of indecent images of the young girl while babysitting for her family. These revelations prompted a thorough investigation into Evans' activities, which uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse.
The police report indicated that Evans had been advertising himself as a babysitter on a website even while on police bail, raising questions about his ongoing access to children and the adequacy of monitoring his activities. It was also established that Evans had committed additional offences against a seven-year-old girl during babysitting duties at her home in Uckfield.
At Hove Crown Court, Evans was sentenced to a total of six years and eight months in prison. The court also imposed an extended supervision order for three years following his release, designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. Additionally, Evans was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect indefinitely. This order includes strict prohibitions on any contact with children, restrictions on his residence and movements in public places where children are present, and limitations on his access to mobile devices.
Furthermore, Evans will be registered as a sex offender for life and was subjected to lifelong restraining orders that prohibit any form of contact with his victims. Despite having no prior convictions, the police have issued a public appeal to families who suspect their children may have been targeted or abused by Evans. It has emerged that Evans worked within the voluntary and statutory childcare sectors across Sussex, Kent, and Surrey for over twenty years, including employment at various nurseries. Authorities are urging anyone with concerns or information to come forward to assist ongoing investigations and ensure the safety of children in the community.
