ANDREW COOK AND THE SHOCKING SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AT HAMPTON SCHOOL, BERKSHIRE

A former rowing coach from Berkshire has been sentenced to six years in prison after orchestrating a disturbing pattern of sexual exploitation involving multiple teenage boys.

Andrew Cook, aged 30, was found guilty of committing 37 separate sexual offences against nearly thirty-two boys aged between 13 and 17 years old at the prestigious and expensive Hampton School, located in south west London.

Cook deceitfully infiltrated the trust of his young victims by assuming the identity of a 16-year-old girl named Anne Jones.

Under this false persona, he engaged with numerous teenage boys, encouraging them to strip and record explicit images of themselves.

The teacher manipulated these vulnerable adolescents over a span of nine years, exploiting their trust and friendship.

His method involved 'pic for pic' exchanges, requesting and sharing nude photographs in a dangerous online game of truth or dare.

The victims, many of whom attended the court proceedings, expressed feelings of embarrassment, shame, and even physical sickness upon learning that their trusted coach was the individual behind the deceptive online persona.

They recalled feeling betrayed by someone they viewed as a mentor and friend, especially because Cook had previously been perceived as someone who offered support during difficult times, including incidents of bullying.

The sentencing hearing took place at Guilford Crown Court, where Judge Alexia Durran delivered a stern judgment.

Some victims appeared in person, while others participated remotely.

The court also imposed a ban on Cook working with children in the future, and he was ordered to register as a sex offender.

The investigation into Cook’s criminal activities was launched in April 2018 by Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team.

The authorities were alerted by Hampton School after concerns were raised.

Their subsequent inquiry revealed that Cook had been offending since June 2011, making it a nine-year period of ongoing abuse.

Throughout this time, Cook continued to groom his victims using various online tactics.

He would invite them to play truth and dare games and manipulate them into exchanging explicit images, even on occasions impersonating a female relative, such as his cousin, to solicit nude photographs.

In one alarming instance, he sent a boy topless images of a woman and asked for nude pictures in return.

Cook’s conduct extended to possessing a total of 53 indecent images of children, and he pleaded guilty to 37 counts of grooming and related offences.

He also faced charges concerning three other boys, but those charges were not tried and remain on file.

The misconduct led to his dismissal from Hampton School, a renowned independent establishment with a history spanning over four centuries.

He was dismissed two years prior to his sentencing, following an internal disciplinary process triggered by student complaints.

The school publicly expressed profound regret over the incident, emphasizing that such actions are completely contrary to the institution’s core values.

They assured the public that the welfare of their students is of top priority, and immediately cooperated with law enforcement once concerns emerged.

A spokesperson from Hampton School conveyed their heartfelt apology to those affected, expressing gratitude towards those who came forward with information and noting that the school has continued to support victims and aid ongoing investigations.

The school reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding students and working closely with authorities to ensure justice is served.
